FAQ's

Cool name. How is the brand name ‘Xootr’ pronounced?
It is pronounced ‘Zooter’ – similar to the sound of ‘Xerox’.

Which countries does Xootr Australia sell to?
Xootr Australia sells its products to people that live in Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia. If you live in North or South America or North America, please purchase your Xootr products from
www.xootr.com in the USA. If you live in Europe or Africa, please purchase your Xootr products from www.footbikeshop.com in the Netherlands.

email Xootr Australia to confirm shipping rates to countries outside of Australia. All orders are shipped within 24 business hours of receipt of payment. Most shipments take between 2 and 4 days. Xootr Australia does not offer an overnight courier service unless a customer organises pick-up from our warehouse in Sydney using their own courier account.

What is your returns and refund policy?
Xootr Australia provides a satisfaction guarantee whereby if a purchaser or gift recipient is not completely satisfied with their new Xootr after trying it out, they may return the Xootr scooter to Xootr Australia within 14 days of receipt for a full refund provided that the product(s) are in new condition and packaged in their original packaging. Just make sure that you do not damage the scooter, otherwise we will have to make an allowance for discounting the price on the scooter. The cost of return shipping has to be paid for by the customer or gift recipient.

How secure is your website for online payments?
Xootr Australia uses a secure, 128 bit, SSL encrypted credit payments system supplied by Westpac Bank. When online customers of Xootr Australia submit their credit card details in the shopping cart, they are linked to a secure page on Westpac's payments website and it is Westpac, not Xootr Australia, that receives and processes your credit card details. When Xootr Australia accepts manual credit card payments by telephone from consumers or retailers, Xootr Australia enters your credit details into the same secure Westpac payments page, ensuring that your credit card details are secure at all times. Once Xootr Australia has completed a manual payment, we destroy all records of your credit card details in order to ensure that your card details can not be misused. The other option is to pay Xootr Australia via a direct bank deposit using your online banking.

Is the Xootr scooter easy to ride?

All Xootr scooter models are very easy to ride thanks to their low centre of gravity and stable kick-boards. The Cruz, Mag and Street all have wide kickboards that can easily fit two large adult feet next to each other as you glide along. The high-end Venus model has a narrow kick-board designed for speed scooting as it is easier and more efficient to kick your leg up and down fast with a narrow kick-board. The handlebars are stable and easy to steer on all Xootr scooters. The height of the handle bars can be adjusted quickly and easily with a quick-release handle so you can ensure that your hands and arms are at a comfortable height.

How well does the Xootr scooter glide?
It glides very well because the Xootr scooter's wheels are made out of a high, low-friction polyurethane to minimize rolling resistance. The wheels are about double the size of Razor wheels with top quality ball bearings so they glide much better.
Click here for a graph that shows how well the Xootr glides compared to other products.

How come the front forks are angled backwards?
Trust us, it's supposed to be like that. It's part of the patented design. The front wheel is swept back to keep the steering stable.

Is the Xootr scooter safe?
Xootr scooters are very safe when riding on smooth concrete or tarmac urban footpaths, cycle tracks, city squares and beach-side promenades. You can safely ride up and down gentle hills and inclines. For your safety, we recommend that you avoid riding on roads when cars are present; avoid medium and steep gradient hills as the brakes are not designed to stop you on steeper hills; and avoid riding in wet, rainy conditions as the alloy brake blocks brakes do not work on the smooth tires when they are wet. Xootr scooters are not designed to be used on dirt roads and other 'off-road' environments and rough tarmac roads. Rough surfaces can be dangerous due to potholes and are likely to damage your Xootr due to excessive loose sand, dirt and gravel. We recommend that you wear a helmet to minimize the risk of injury. Xootr Australia does not take any responsibility for any accidents that you may be involved as a result of riding a Xootr scooter.

How do I stop?
The Xootr scooter has a front brake like a bicycle brake. Many riders also use the back-brake by pushing down on the rear mud guard with their foot. You can use these techniques or if you aren't going too fast, simply step off. Xootr scooters are not designed to go down steep hills as they pick-up speed very quickly and the brakes are not designed to handle steep hills. They are fine on gentle hills.

How does the Xootr scooter handle bumps in the pavement?
The Xootr’s large diameter wheels clear small bumps and gaps in concrete or pavement without any problems. We recommend that you avoid obvious large bumps, cracks and obstacles.

Will the front brake pitch the rider over the handlebars?
With a bicycle or a car, about 75 percent of the stopping power is provided by the front brake. Scooters are no different. Without a front brake a Xootr scooter would not slow down too well. We have carefully tuned the brake so that it is hard to lock up the front wheel. We have experimented with a lot of brake designs and have found that riders much prefer the current Xootr front brake to any other alternative.

I saw a "Razor" scooter in a shop for $130. What makes the Xootr different? Click here for a comparison
The "Razor" and other small scooters are designed for kids. Xootr scooters are designed for teenagers and adults and can safely carry upto 130kg. The Xootr handlebar slides out a lot higher than on a Razor and the kickboards are nearly double the width and quite a bit longer, comfortably accommodating upto size 14 feet. The Xootr’s wheels are double the size of a Razor so they are much less prone to getting stuck in cracks and on bumps and require much less effort as they glide more efficiently.

What is the minimum age that you recommend for a Xootr scooter?
We recommend that kids are 7+ before they ride a Xootr scooter as they can pick-up quite a lot of speed with the larger wheels. In addition, Xootr scooters with the wide kick boards are easier to ride once your legs are a bit longer. Having said all of this, it is ultimately a parent's responsibility to make the decision as to whether or not their child is able and allowed to ride a Xootr scooter. Xootr Australia does not and can not take any responsibility for any children or adults that ride Xootr kick scooters.

I weigh over 90 kg - which Xootr do you recommend?
Whilst all Xootr kick scooters are rated to carry people of up to 125kg in weight, we recommend that if you weigh over 90kg that you consider buying a Mag, Street or Venus as the Magnesium and Aluminium kickboards are a lot stiffer than the Cruz. The Cruz is made of laminated timber and therefore has more flex in the kickboard which is noticable if you weigh over 90kg.

I've arrived at my destination, now what do I do with my Xootr scooter?
A Xootr only weighs ~4.5kg and folds down in about 5 seconds. Most people just carry the Xootr scooter with them by hand or using a carry strap or carry bag
 (
see Accessories page). If you want to leave it somewhere you can lock it using a U-lock or cable lock. It also fits into most larger gym lockers or under your desk at work or school.

Where can I try out a Xootr scooter?
If you know or see someone with a Xootr scooter, ask them if you can take it for a spin. Most people we know are very happy to share their Xootr scooter. You can also visit one of our retailers. They all have a demo Xootr Mag available for your to try out - click here for details.

Can I take my Xootr onto a bus, train, ferry or plane?
You sure can! Thousands of Xootr owners around the world commute with their Xootr scooters every day, by bus, train and ferry. Some Xootr owners like to take their scooter on the plane on business trips to get a work-out or when they go on holiday. We sell a handy durable, black
Xootr carry bag that is tailored to the shape of a Xootr scooter. It is handy if you want to protect your Xootr in the boot of your car, in the luggae bay on a bus or train, or when you check your Xootr into the hold of a plane.

Where can I buy spare parts for my Xootr?
Xootr Australia stocks most spare parts for Xootr scooters such as wheels, brake pads, break levers, handle bars, handle bar grips, locking pins and quick release clamps in Sydney. You can buy them from the Spares shop on this website. If you require a part that we do not stock locally e.g. a new kick-board, then we can get one to Australia from the USA within 10 days.

What sort of Warranty does a Xootr scooter come with?
